SUMMARY:Goombay Skip Day Hike 2 - OLD RAG MOUNTAIN/SPRING EDITION
DESCRIPTION:Goombay Skip Day Hike 2 – OLD RAG MOUNTAIN/SPRING EDITION \nFriday\, May 9th | 5am – 6:30pm \nOld Rag is an awesome hike in Shenandoah National Park.  Some say it’s even the best hike in the mid-Atlantic region. Old Rag Mountain tops out at 3\,284 feet. Though the tip is far from the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountains\, Old Rag is unique for its rocky summit and difficult terrain\, which includes long stretches of bare rock that bear a closer resemblance to the rugged peaks of Yosemite than anything else you’ll find in Virginia.  This is a fun but challenging hike that is great for adults! \nCOST  \n$125 per hiker  \n* Van transportation will pick up and drop off from the Vienna South Metro Park & Ride located at 9550 Saintsbury Dr. Fairfax\, VA 22031 \n* Van will depart at 5:00am and return by 6:30pm \n* Park entrance fee & day-use ticket included \n* Hike guides provided (premium hike) \n$60 per hiker  \n* Hikers will provide their own transportation to the Old Rag Boundary Lower Parking Lot \n\nFrom Sperryville\, Route 211: Take Route 522 south for .8 mile. Hikers often need assistance navigating the rock scramble. Wear proper hiking clothing and footwear\, and stay on the marked trail as hazardous terrain and conditions frequently result in visitor injuries. Bring plenty of water\, and prepare for unexpected weather and delays.  \nCell Service\nCell and GPS services are unreliable on Old Rag Mountain\, so please plan accordingly. SUMMARY:Washington\, DC Urban Hike
DESCRIPTION:The Goombay Washington\, DC URBAN Hike 2025 \n“Let’s get out and start the year off with a hike in the woods” \nSunday\, Feb. 23rd | 10am – 12pm \nJoin us for a Beginner/Intermediate Level hike through Fort Dupont Park! We’ll explore the Hiker-Biker Trail\, Turkey Trail\, and Garden Trail\, covering approximately 5 miles of mostly flat terrain with a few small hills. The terrain is mostly flat but has a few small hills. \nCAN BEGINNERS ATTEND THIS HIKE: Yes\, this is a beginner friendly hike. \nWHAT IS THE PACE OF THE GROUP: The group pace will be moderate and may break up into two pace groups (fast or slow).  We will have hike leaders mixed within the group and we will stop periodically for water and rest. \nWHAT TYPE OF HIKE IS THIS: This is a 5 mile point-to-point trail\, which begins at one location and ends at a different location\, meaning you hike in one direction and need to arrange transportation to get back to the starting point. \nARE PETS ALLOWED: Yes \nIS PARKING FREE: Parking is free but we suggest you arrive as early as possible to secure a good parking space \nWHAT SHOULD I WEAR: A good rule of thumb is to dress comfortably and in layers. Dressing in layers will allow you to stay warm when your cold and as you warm up\, you can take off layers and not over heat. It’s going to be cool to cold so we strongly suggest warm clothing\, moisture wicking under garments\, a hat\, sturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers (your choice)\, wool socks\, a small day back\, trekking poles (optional) and plenty of water. \nIf you have any questions please contact Butch at 202.210-1957
