DESCRIPTION:The Goombay Washington\, DC URBAN Hike 2025 \n“Let’s get out and start the year off with a hike in the woods” \nSunday\, Feb. 23rd | 10am – 12pm \nJoin us for a Beginner/Intermediate Level hike through Fort Dupont Park! We’ll explore the Hiker-Biker Trail\, Turkey Trail\, and Garden Trail\, covering approximately 5 miles of mostly flat terrain with a few small hills. Pets are welcome on this hike! \nTrail Details \nThis is a point-to-point trail\, meaning the hike starts at one location and ends at another. Hikers have two options for transportation: \n\nDrive to the endpoint\, park your car\, then Uber or carpool to the starting point.\nUber or carpool to both the starting and ending points.\n\nStarting Point \nAnacostia Community Museum\n1901 Fort Place SE\, Washington\, DC 20020 \nEnding Point \nFort Dupont Park Activity Center\nFort Dupont Dr. SE\, Washington\, DC 20019\n**MAKE SURE YOU GOOGLE OR WAZE “FORT DUPONT PARK ACTIVITY CENTER” FOR EXACT DIRECTIONS \nHIKE AGENDA:\n9:00am: Hikers drop off their vehicles at Fort Dupont Park Activity Center Parking Lot and Uber or carpool to starting point \n9:30am: Hikers arrive at Anacostia Community Museum \n10:00am: Hikers assemble for group welcome & photo \n10:15am: Hike begins from the Anacostia Community Museum \n12:15pm: Hike ends at Fort Dupont Park Activity Center \n1:30pm: Post hike meet n greet over food & drinks (locations TBD) \nSUGGESTED EQUIPMENT LIST \n\nDay Pack with snacks & water\nTrekking Poles (optional)\nSturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers\nSmall First Aid Kit (optional)\nWeather-appropriate clothing (think layers)\nHat or scarf\nTrail snacks & plenty of water\nHand Warmers\nCell phone with back up battery\n\nFAQ \nWHAT LEVEL IS THIS HIKE: This is a Beginner/Intermediate Level hike which is suitable for all level hikers. The terrain is mostly flat but has a few small hills. \nCAN BEGINNERS ATTEND THIS HIKE: Yes\, this is a beginner friendly hike. \nWHAT IS THE PACE OF THE GROUP: The group pace will be moderate and may break up into two pace groups (fast or slow).  We will have hike leaders mixed within the group and we will stop periodically for water and rest. \nWHAT TYPE OF HIKE IS THIS: This is a 5 mile point-to-point trail\, which begins at one location and ends at a different location\, meaning you hike in one direction and need to arrange transportation to get back to the starting point.  \nARE PETS ALLOWED: Yes \nIS PARKING FREE: Parking is free but we suggest you arrive as early as possible to secure a good parking space \nWHAT SHOULD I WEAR: A good rule of thumb is to dress comfortably and in layers. Dressing in layers will allow you to stay warm when your cold and as you warm up\, you can take off layers and not over heat. It’s going to be cool to cold so we strongly suggest warm clothing\, moisture wicking under garments\, a hat\, sturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers (your choice)\, wool socks\, a small day back\, trekking poles (optional) and plenty of water. \nIf you have any questions please contact Butch at 202.210-1957
